A view moments of painting and preparing the idea, I came up to this. It is way not subtle enough, I am still exploring. But......... when I walked into my garden and saw my easel with the painting on it. I thought "wow, that does look nice!"
I'll go on and paint a little more.. I like the stripes while the man walks in a striped shirt also. But the contrast in the cap is to high. And I need to bled the face better.
The walking version of the man is also unfinished yet so take that in mind.

Damp and glazing post in Art papa
Yesterday I took a half day from ,my work for myself. I received 2 free tickets for a huge important art market. Such place where "the money" goes and walks around.
I invited an art friend from Amsterdam and went to: http://www.pan.nl/ That afternoon.
Some paintings really inspired me to do my utmost best on this "Just a man" in Lesotho painting.
And Thinking what BA often is telling about depth and layers.. I decided to take my time and start glazing.
First I thought to put a better damp behind the horizon and over the top mountains.
Then I took the change, taking the risk of spoiling the lot, by glazing some thin ocker oranges and yellows over the soil.
Even over the grasses.
Then I focused on the fields in front of the damp mountains behind and started placing news soil structure in and paths.. just very thin and secure.. And yes.. I think, I like it.

Lesotho on my easel
Lesotho with "Just a Man"
In need of rest, my attention was again drawn to this work in progress.
I was a few days in Lesotho October 2008.
It was hot and dry and warm and wide and there were very few amenities. But the country had a purity and beauty, what has struck me deeply. It was expressed in poetic, Sotho, by the song of a man who went along to guide us caves with primitive rock drawings.
In this country you can taste, dependency, and attachment to the earth.
Red earth, dry earth, unapproachable nature. Too little water for a thirsty hiker.
But need to slow down, and the battle to deal with yourself, to maintain patience and calm.
"Just a Man" recalls the inspiration for me came from this Losotho man with deep religious awareness and respect for the power and immensity of the earth.
As there under our feet felt penetrated the skin and let dry feel what power you need to slowly, very slowly going.
